~WHODUNNIT?! -The Mystery Of Nicole Kidman's Face~

"It is said that no star is a heroine to her makeup artist" -Richard Corliss

I settled into my chair at my desk today ready to start my search for today's hottest fashion and beauty stories. I thought I was armed with an ample amount of all of my "essentials" And quickly realized I was going to need double the amount of Pepsi, chocolate and those dastardly cigarettes. What happened? Nicole Kidman's face. That's what happened.
I landed on one of my favorite sites
"Dlisted" and saw pictures of Nicole from the NYC premiere of "Nine", the title of the post was "Coker face". And it was appropriate. No, I AM NOT suggesting Nicole indulged in a little nose candy, not at all. I'm saying the title was spot on because it certainly looked like she had. White powder EVERYWHERE. Yikes... I thought maybe it was simply a joke. So I did a search. Every picture I found of her from that night had the same mystery powder ruining a great shot, as Nicole looked gorgeous that night. So I am assuming the pictures are authentic.

I took a closer look... Now, unless cocaine can also be snorted through her eye it couldn't possibly be that. The powder was under her eyes and all over her nose. The most likely culprit? A seriously inept makeup artist. Seriously. Inept. He/She needs to have their brushes and MAC Pro card revoked immediately.

And something else bothers me... No one could be bothered to tell her?! Really? The ladies of the cast of "Nine" couldn't look out for a girl?! Smh...damn shame. I'm surprised at you Dame Judi Dench!!

~Artist Alex Box Takes Makeup Art To A New Level~

a·vant-garde (ävänt-gärd, vänt-)
n.
A group active in the invention and application of new techniques in a given field, especially in the arts.

adj.
Of, relating to, or being part of an innovative group, especially one in the arts: avant-garde painters; an avant-garde theater piece.

[French, from Old French, vanguard; see vanguard.]

The term "Makeup artist" doesn't quite do Alex Box justice. I would call her a "makeup visionary". She takes the art of applying makeup to a whole new level and the result of her technique and talent is very avante-garde. Her visions and the ensuing results are captured by photographer Rankin in her self titled book. Have a look...

~ Ruby Slipper Lips? Lacy Eyes? Yup..."Kate" by Saima Altunkaya~

"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." ~Albert Einstein

A collection of photos titled "Kate" by makeup artist Saima Altunkaya brings back an almost forgotten makeup principle of concentrating on one single feature while leaving the rest of the face relatively bare. In simpler terms, if you apply a heavily smokey eye, you would then apply a very neutral shade of blush and lipcolor, if any at all. Saima did an EXCELLENT job of following this principle. The lace eye and black lip are tied for the title of my favorite...

"Love of beauty is Taste. The creation of beauty is Art.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you are in the beauty/fashion industry you already know of the magical book that is "MACzine". If your not in the industry and do not know it let me tell you... The MACzine is a beauty magazine that
MAC Cosmetics sends out to their best clients/buyers, that basically showcases upcoming trends for the season. Each issue has its own theme, MUA collaborations, tips, interviews and display showcases for next upcoming season. The pictures are how I picture Heaven to be...seriously. All glossy, colorful, exotic, candy-laced, cupcake and cotton candy filled, lipgloss mandatory, sugary sweet Heaven...yes, that's how I picture Heaven. Like a cross-breed of "Candyland" and MAC makeup. Basically MACzine...

Thanks to one of my very favorite websites in cyber space
http://www.cyanatrendland.com/ I can bring my readers some of the MACzine magic:

"A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind." -Eugene Ionesco

When I grow up I wanna be...Sylvia Dell’ Orto. Who? Yes, that's the usual response and I really don't understand why. Kevyn Aucoin (RIP), Dick Page, Pat McGrath, Troy Jensen, Scott Barnes, all phenomenal artists and all recognizable names. However even though Sylvia Dell’ Orto maybe one the most talented makeup artist I have ever seen or will ever see, very few people know who I'm speaking of when I mention my admiration for her. It's time I introduce you to one of my few idols...

Have a look at some of Sylvia Dell’ Orto's best work:

Astounding. Extraordinary. Uber-Talented. Utterly Amazing...Sylvia Dell’ Orto.
