Joe Nuxhall (1928-2007), the youngest player in major league history and the beloved "Ol' Left-Hander" on Cincinnati Reds radio broadcasts, died late Thursday November 15th following a long battle with cancer, the team said this morning. He was 79.
Joe Nuxhall compiled a career ERA of 3.90 and a record of 135-117 during his 16-season career. He was the youngest player ever to appear in a major league game during the modern era, pitching 2/3 of an inning for the Cincinnati Reds on June 10, 1944, at the age of 15 years, 10 months, and 11 days.
