The Venture Bros appear to be getting more attention this season, with not one but two episodes almost exclusively about each one. Tonight’s was Hank centered, but for those worried about Dean not getting enough attention, don’t fret. Next week Dean moves to the big city to get an unpaid internship.
Anyway, this one worked out great. Seeing the noir effect occur each time Hank put on a hat was sort of priceless, as was Al’s chase of Dermott through the parking lot. Most of the episode would have worked well joke-wise for someone just getting into the series. Even though there was some referencing within the series, it didn’t feel as overwhelming as usual.
Plus, this appeared to be the episode where Hank became the cool kid. Throughout the whole series, he tried so hard to please others. During his double-date with his brother Dean, he failed. When the family went into the Amazon, Hank failed again, as the girls went for Dean. Without Dean, Hank came into his own this episode. Everything worked out well for him for the most part.
I’m trying to avoid ruining the crux of the episode, the real shocker. Watch it, and enjoy the talk Hank has with himself at the end. It is absolutely priceless. Next week we get part II of this strange summer they had.
