So what we have here is a fairly adorable band from Long Island, New York. For those of you not in the know, Long Island is also known as “Strong Island” and is the best part of New York. I mean, just walk around Brooklyn and see how many cool kids originally came from that glacial deposit.
Anyway, Twin Sister is about as weird as you’d expect from an appendage. Most of it takes place in a sort of slow moving groove, only really breaking out of it for the “dance” song “All around and Away we Go”. In that song, it has such a good, sweet build on it. Usually I’m against this sort of electronic cuteness, but it kind of tugged my heartstrings a little bit.
My other pick would be the weird “Lady Daydream”. In this one, you get the daydream the song is titled after. It floats pleasantly in your brain, and gets stuck there. I mean that with the sincerest form of flattery, it is so sweet.
The rest of the album/long EP works on various levels. If I had a “WTF” moment on this, it would have to be ambient interlude of “Galaxy Plateau”. Not only does it fail to relate to the rest of the album, it goes on for about 6 minutes without really heading anywhere.
Otherwise, this is a much better record deserving of more attention than it has gotten.
